As a U.S. citizen studying abroad in Rome in Fall 2024, you can still exercise your right to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election on November 5, 2024!

John Cabot University has partnered with Vote From Abroad, a non-partisan platform that helps U.S. citizens cast their overseas ballots and get “vote ready.”

Ahead of the U.S. election this Fall, Vote From Abroad will come to campus to provide American JCU students, staff and faculty with the necessary information to register to vote, request and return an overseas ballot. VFA will guide you through the process of filling out and sending the federal form needed to vote from overseas

This year, the Voter Registration Drive for the JCU community will take place at Frohring Campus on September 9, 10 and 11, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm. For additional information, please contact studentengagement@johncabot.edu and follow @students.votefromabroad on Instagram to stay updated on information about elections.

What You Need To Vote From Abroad

You can register any time! All you need is to follow five steps:

  1. If you’re not yet registered to vote in your home state, go to https://vote.org and register before you leave the U.S. to study abroad.
  1. Request the overseas ballot before you leave home or at the Voter Registration Drive at Frohring Campus once you’re in Rome, following the steps below:
  • Documentation: The last four digits of your social security number, U.S. home address, email address, phone number and current address in Italy.
  1. Sign and send your overseas ballot request. Make sure to send the completed form to your election office by clicking ‘Send Email.’
  1. After receiving the overseas ballot by email on September 20th, you should carefully read, complete, sign and return your overseas ballot following the accompanying instructions.
  • If your ballot must be returned by postal mail, you can purchase a stamp (“Un francobollo”) at a Tabaccheria and mail the stamped and addressed envelope from any red Italian post box.
  1. Contact your Local Election Office to make sure your ballot was received and will be counted.

If you can’t make it to campus on September 9 - 11, you can register on your own by visiting VFA’s website, https://www.votefromabroad.org/ and follow all the instructions on how to request your overseas ballot.
