With all the excitement of study abroad in Rome, there can be a tendency for students to let personal health take a back seat. John Cabot University provides many ways for students to take care of themselves while actually having fun! Here are just a few of the ways international students in Italy can stay happy and healthy.
By joining in on recreational athletics, not only do you get some invigorating exercise and fresh air, but you get to build friendships while having lots of fun. John Cabot University offers many of the traditional university athletic choices – from fast-paced team sports like soccer and basketball to more low-key, individualized activities like yoga. We even offer more alternative athletic opportunities, such as martial arts and even sailing! Check out the athletics website to find a sport that fits your personality!
If you’re feeling a little less than stellar, it’s probably good to nip it in the bud and pay John Cabot University’s resident physician, Dr. Stephanie Salvatore, a visit. Her office is located outside of the Aula Magna Regina at the Guarini Campus. She sees students on a first-come-first-served, "walk-in" basis and your visits are free of charge.
For your convenience, JCU maintains a roster of English-speaking doctors, maps to doctors’ offices, pharmacies and hospitals. An important thing to remember is that it is illegal to have medication mailed to Italy and it will be stopped at customs. For this reason, students should bring enough of their prescription medication with them to last their entire stay in Rome. Detailed information about health care can be found on the JCU website.
Adjusting to new surroundings is exciting but can occasionally be challenging as well. If you need someone to talk to, John Cabot University’s Counseling Services is just the place for you. Free, confidential assistance is provided for students experiencing any type of problems that could interfere with their well-being or academic performance.
As well as quality health services and athletic options, John Cabot University also offers excellent trips to stay active, including neighborhood tours, picturesque mountain hikes and sailing adventures. Get out and experience the beautiful Italian countryside, and get some exercise doing it!
John Cabot University also offers a multitude of cooking classes throughout the semester. Tired of relying on pizza and snacks to get you through the days? Our cooking classes, taught by a trained and respected Italian chef, will help you make healthy meals that will be a thousand times more delicious than fast food options.
You can check out our full range of trips and activities on our website!
So there you have it, staying happy and healthy while you study abroad in Italy is not only easier than you thought, but it can actually be a lot of fun!
