When you’re studying in university, whether it’s as one of many international students in Italy at John Cabot University, or on your home turf, looking ahead to what you’re going to be doing as a career is important. Even if you’re not completely sure what you want to do when you graduate, you should be looking out for opportunities and keeping your options open. One of the best and most overlooked resources that is available to students is that of Career Services.
From connecting you to future employers to helping you craft the perfect resume, the wealth of services available to you at John Cabot University’s Center for Career Services is a great way to get a leg up in the real world!
As an American university in Rome, John Cabot University is unique in that our career counselors can help you in a variety of settings. They’re extremely well versed in both international and U.S. standards, and can help you tailor your resume or cover letter to the exact specifications that employers are looking for, no matter where you’re applying for jobs. With expert knowledge and a ton of experience in the field of career counseling, our career service advisors will be able to teach you great interview techniques, strategies for preparing for your first day, information for where to start your job hunt and much more.
If you think that you’ve got it all figured out and you can’t learn anything from our Career Services staff, you’ll be surprised when you come out doubly prepared and confident to step into the career of your dreams.
One of the best opportunities available to students at Career Services is the ability to make connections with alumni. Making contact with a former student working in a career that you’re interested in is an effective way to prepare yourself regarding specific training you will require and to find out if the job is all you imagined. While it may not necessarily lead to employment, making connections with alumni is great because they can help in pointing you in the right direction, giving you real world tips, and suggesting some areas of interest for you.
Career Services can also provide you with a wealth of opportunities to get information and maybe a foot in the door to some great careers during Career Fair. Hosted every semester, Career Fairs bring employers from a variety of businesses and organizations – and many international companies – together in one room, so the opportunities are incredible! The last fair was on March 28th but get your business cards and resumes ready for the next one!
Career Services can vastly improve your chances of finding a rewarding job that you love while you study in Italy, exercising interview skills and providing several excellent part-time internship opportunities. Take full advantage by attending the always insightful seminars, held regularly throughout the semester. Visit John Cabot University’s Center for Career Services webpage to find out more.
