Students come to John Cabot University from all over the world for the unique opportunity to study at an English-language university in Rome. The JCU Cultural Program was designed to help foster this intercultural experience, and help visiting students learn more about their adopted home country of Italy.
Every year the Cultural Program organizes trips and activities, ranging from tours of Italian cities to workshops on the fine art of Italian cooking. Every activity is designed to encourage an interactive, hands-on approach to cultural exploration, and is carried out in groups to encourage students to connect with their classmates from across the globe.

Students Have the Option Between Day and Weekend Trips in Italy
The Cultural Program offers a variety of day and weekend trips for students to choose from, in a variety of different price ranges. Day trips will often take students a train ride away to a nearby city, where they can discover and tour a new region of Italy. In the past, JCU has organized day trips to Assisi, Florence, Tivoli, Siena, and Pompeii—with all-inclusive transportation and private tours by a local expert.
Weekend trips usually span two to three days and include accommodations, meals, and private tours. Past weekend getaways have featured beautiful destinations like the regions of Campania, Umbria and Emilia Romagna.
Trips and Activities Taking Place in Summer and Fall 2015
If these past Cultural Program adventures have piqued your interest, then you’ll definitely want to check out some new events you can take part in while attending university in Italy this summer and fall. Here’s what we have planned:
- Italian Cooking Class (July 16 and July 22) – No study abroad in Italy would be complete without learning how to make authentic Italian pasta! Led by Italian chef Andrea Consoli and conducted in English, this cooking class is a great way to learn about traditional dishes, and meet other foodies at JCU.
- Montalcino Day Trip (July 17 and September 11) - Montalcino in Tuscany boasts some of the world’s best vineyards. Students participating this trip will have the opportunity to taste some of Italy’s best vintages, and tour a real countryside winery!
JCU students enjoying a wine-tasting in Montalcino- Water Sports Weekend Trip (July 18-19) - Enjoy a weekend at sea in Fregene, an beach town northwest of Rome. Water activities will include paddle boarding, windsurfing and sailing catamarans. Afterwards, students will spend the evening barbequing on the beach, and camping under the stars.
- Turandot Opera (August 4) - Turandot was the last opera the great Italian composer Puccini wrote before he died. Students will have the opportunity to see and hear some of the country’s best opera singers perform this masterpiece on stage in Rome.
- Sapri Weekend Trip (September 25-26) – At this beautiful port city on the Tyrrhenian Sea, students will spend an adventurous weekend boating, caving, and hiking above the Orto delle Canne.
