My name is Alessandro Mazzarisi and I just graduated from John Cabot University this past May with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
I grew up in the countryside in southern Italy, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. While I loved spending times outdoors in Puglia, after graduating from high school I wanted to improve my English and experience an American environment. After doing some research I chose John Cabot University, because it is the only option that combines an authentic American environment in the beautiful city of Rome, with their campuses in the heart of Trastevere.
One of the things that I enjoyed most about living in Rome was experiencing Roman folklore on a daily basis. Yes, I am Italian, but every region is different, with its own history, culture, and traditions. Also, being able to live in a city that is practically a living museum with inspiring architecture and centuries of history is definitely a worthwhile experience.
Every memory I have from my experience at John Cabot brings me joy and happiness in different ways. As for academics, the daily challenges JCU put me through have definitely paid off because it gave me confidence in my current career. Being active is also a very important part of my life, and I got to be part of the Gladiator’s basketball team. My last season as a player was great because we ended the season by winning the tournament and I received the ‘Most Valuable Player’ award. But without a doubt, the best memories from my time at John Cabot University are related to the great people I got to meet, that now I get to call my best friends!
As I mentioned before, my degree is in marketing. John Cabot’s B.A. in Marketing does not require a thesis, but instead ends with a marketing project for a real company. My team and I got to create an online and offline marketing strategy for a startup company based in Rome. This experience allowed me to apply everything I learned throughout college to actual work in my field. And now, just one month after graduation, I am working in Milan for the McCANN World Group as a production assistant, currently collaborating with Nespresso, Coca-Cola Company, Grana Padano and PosteItaliane. I am thankful for my JCU experience and am looking forward to applying all that my degree taught me throughout my career.
