At John Cabot University, besides providing students with a solid theoretical foundation in their respective fields, we encourage community engagement and many other active learning activities. Through our liberal arts lens, we strive to produce graduates who identify as global citizens and remain committed to improving the world around them. One way that we fulfill this mission is to provide students with opportunities to face pressing world issues head-on - like climate change.

By promoting more sustainable habits and regulating materials on our campus, we are confident that positive change could be on the horizon. Innovation is needed to drive necessary change. Today, we’ll explore the role of innovation in fostering sustainability on the JCU campus. Discover what sustainability looks like to us, the connection between sustainability and innovation, and how you can get involved now.

How JCU Fosters Sustainability in Our Community

John Cabot University is deeply committed to fostering a sustainable world through its core educational and operational practices. Anchored in its liberal arts tradition, JCU prioritizes scholarship and active engagement in sustainability across all its departments and strives to foster innovation and leadership in our students who represent the agents of tomorrow.

By enriching our academic offerings and research initiatives with hands-on opportunities to tackle climate change, JCU bridges academic excellence with pragmatic solutions to real-world sustainability issues. This holistic approach ensures that JCU contributes to the discourse on sustainability and equips its students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical grounding necessary to make a tangible, positive impact on the world.

The Connection Between Innovation and Sustainability

Sustainability and innovation are intrinsically linked, driving forward-looking solutions to some of the world's most pressing environmental challenges. At the heart of this connection lies the recognition that addressing climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss requires incremental adjustments, radical rethinking, and creativity.

By definition, innovation is the perfect solution to this need for dramatic change. It pushes boundaries, challenges the status quo, and fosters the development of sustainable technologies, business models, and practices that reduce environmental impact while promoting economic and social well-being. Knowing that sustainability and innovation work as a couplet, we strive to combine them in the many active learning activities that we facilitate. Let’s explore how you can participate!

How to Get Involved

If you believe that your ideas have the potential to solve some of today’s most urgent climate issues, be sure to get involved in the sustainability initiatives at our university in Rome. Get the fundamental knowledge you need to understand climate issues in one of our fascinating courses on the subject. When participating in our Triggering Change Competition, combine your expertise with your natural creativity. This activity asks students to pitch moving ideas with the potential to incite real change on campus and in the community.

Can’t get enough of sustainability? Consider earning a Certificate in Sustainability and joining the Grassroots Club. Both offer valuable opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals and participate in innovative projects that drive real change.
