The Jubilee in Rome is one of the most significant religious events in the world. The opening of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican marks the beginning of a deeply meaningful year for the Catholic Church. Rome eagerly embraces this occasion, celebrating the arrival of visitors from all corners of the world and sharing its rich history, culture, and spiritual heritage with them.

The Jubilee in Rome is not only a religious celebration; it is also an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of the Eternal City and take part in the many cultural events organized during the Holy Year. This makes the Jubilee particularly interesting for international students studying in Rome, especially those attending John Cabot University. Students at our university have the privilege of studying in the heart of Rome, close to the city’s most important monuments and cultural sites.

Vatican Jubilee 2025: Bernini Exhibition at the Vatican Museums

A must-see event during the Jubilee in Rome is the Bernini exhibition, organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain at the Vatican Museums. This exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the early works of the renowned artist, showcasing pieces that are not often available to the public.

The exhibition will be open until March 1, 2025, and is easily accessible for students attending JCU. Our campuses are just a short walk from the Vatican and well connected by multiple bus lines.

Jubilee Events for Students: The Jubilee of Youth

One of the most anticipated events of the Jubilee in Rome is the Jubilee of Youth. This special gathering, dedicated to young students and international visitors studying abroad in Italy, will take place from July 28 to August 3, 2025.

In addition to the traditional meetings with the Holy Father and the pilgrimage to the Holy Door, the event will feature various educational, cultural, and musical activities. On July 30 and 31, participants will take part in a series of cultural, religious, and artistic events across the city. The event is free of charge and provides a valuable opportunity for students in Rome to connect and exchange experiences with peers from around the world. The official welcome will take place on July 29 in St. Peter’s Square.

Students at JCU will have the advantage of easily reaching the event, either on foot or by using the many bus lines connecting Trastevere with St. Peter’s Basilica.

Rome Jubilee Attractions: The Best Art Exhibitions in 2025

Art enthusiasts will have the chance to visit an exceptional exhibition dedicated to Saint Francis by Cimabue and Perugino at Palazzo Minerva. This event, organized in collaboration with the Senate of the Republic and the National Gallery of Umbria, features remarkable works on loan from prestigious institutions.

At the center of the exhibition is the Chartula, a rare handwritten text from 1224 by Saint Francis, originating from Assisi. This document serves as the starting point for an exploration of Franciscan iconography from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. Visitors will also be able to admire Cimabue’s portrait of the Saint, on loan from the Porziuncola of Assisi, alongside masterpieces by Benozzo Gozzoli, Taddeo di Bartolo, Niccolò di Liberatore, and Perugino. The exhibition will remain open until March 2, 2025.
