For many students - and their parents! - making the decision to move across the world is both exhilarating and scary. Learning how to do things in a foreign country can be a little intimidating especially if it is your first time living on your own. But John Cabot University offers plenty of resources to make this transition as smooth and peaceful as possible. Even if you are a returning student, it never hurts to refresh your memory about how John Cabot's resources can help you with your personal health and wellness.
The JCU Office of Health and Wellbeing is one of the University's resources that connects students with the physical and mental health resources they need in order to be able to achieve their educational and personal goals. The Health and Wellbeing office can provide or help students connect with on-campus and off-campus doctors, counseling, and assistance with the insurance claims process.
On-Campus Doctors:
For the convenience of the student body, JCU has an English-speaking general practitioner on campus twice a week. Dr. Stephanie Salvatore offers services free of charge in the office located next to the Aula Magna in the Guarini Campus. Dr. Andrea Guerriero is a general practitioner who offers 24/7 house calls to JCU students, for a fee. You can receive free consultations through phone call, text message, or Whatsapp. Both doctors are also available to assist students in finding extra healthcare options if additional services and/or medical tests are required.
Counseling Services:
Another great aspect of John Cabot's Health and Wellbeing office is access to counseling services. The counseling center is located in the Gianicolo Residence, and their counseling and psychiatric services are free of charge to JCU students. The team is made up of four licensed psychologists and one licensed psychiatrist, and their goal is to ensure that the mental health needs of students are being met. To make an appointment, all you have to do is send an email to counseling@johncabot.edu
Safety and Emergency Guidelines:
The Office of Health and Wellbeing makes available a list of emergency contacts and protocol to students. You should save these emergency numbers as contacts in your cell phone so you have them on hand at all times:
- European emergency number: 112 (this number works all over the EU, and is free of charge)
- Police: 113
- Ambulance: 118
- Fire: 115
- US Embassy (Via Veneto, 119): 0646741 (from within Italy) or 01139 0646741 (from the US), or the local embassy of your home country
Discrimination and Harassment Policies:
For the sake of each student's intellectual, personal, and professional growth, JCU strongly values mutual respect, human dignity, and individual differences. The Office of Health and Wellbeing works hard to make sure that the members of this wonderful multicultural community have the right to an environment free of discrimination and harassment. JCU is committed to fulfilling Title IX standards for preventing and responding to sex/gender discrimination and sexual violence in our community.
Students needing assistance in finding additional resources or wishing to discuss any other aspect of their overall health and wellbeing should contact the Coordinator of Student Health and Wellbeing Services in person at the Gianicolo Residence or via email at: health@johncabot.edu
