Amidst all the excitement of going back to school, the John Cabot University STAND Club begins each semester and summer session with a fundraiser. What they do is, they collect used textbooks at the end of every semester and then provide those textbooks to students at the start of the next semester in exchange for a voluntary donation to the Club. Among all of STAND’s initiatives, their book fundraiser is one of the most impactful. It raises thousands of Euros which the club then uses to donate practical items to local organizations and charities to support underprivileged communities.
After the first day of their Fall 2019 book sale, STAND had already raised over 8,000 Euros--and this was only the beginning of the three-day fundraiser! The funds they raise are turned into physical donations which are sent to local women’s shelters, foster care centers, refugee centers, soup kitchens, and more. For example, STAND gives feminine hygiene products to the Casa Internazionale delle Donne, provides and serves meals to the Vo.Re.Co soup kitchen, acquires school supplies to children who are victims of domestic abuse, and obtains clothing for local underprivileged communities.
Whether you are earning your degree or studying abroad at JCU, everyone is welcome to join STAND. Anyone interested in participating can contact the Club at stand@johncabot.edu.
