Alumni Spotlight: Jeanne Stavropoulou, Class of 1990

May 6, 2019
The years I spent at John Cabot University were absolutely the best years of my life. I lived in a city that I loved, I enjoyed the college and campus lifestyle, and made a lot of great friends that I still keep in touch with today.

About Me

John Cabot Yearbook 1990I was born and raised in Athens, Greece. I lived my whole life there, until I moved to Rome to study. At the time I was studying at LaVerne University's Greece campus, but when I found John Cabot University, I decided to transfer and continue my education there in 1987.
While living in Rome, I had so many wonderful opportunities. I traveled the world and learned from amazing professors who had a very strong influence on me, both academically and personally. All of this has shaped me into the person that I am today. I am even still in touch with Professor Neenan to this day.

After graduating on the Dean's List in 1990, I got my first job... and that just so happened to be my dream job. I interviewed with Carla Fendi, who was looking for a young person with good English, and after that I began working for the Fendi sisters. While working for their press office, I was responsible for their public relations and foreign press departments. It was an amazing experience, but it was definitely intense. If anyone has seen the movie "The Devil Wears Prada," you can understand a little bit about the work atmosphere. When I first started out, I was very young and insecure, and spoke very poor Italian, but I found my way.

Like Mother, Like Son

While working and living in Rome after graduating, I fell in love with a Roman man named Claudio. We got married, and I stopped working in 1995 when my son, Alessandro, was born.
John Cabot Alumni

Today, Alessandro himself is studying at John Cabot University! I think he chose JCU because he always felt this sense of an international lifestyle in our family. He was drawn to the multicultural environment of John Cabot. I believe I passed on the desire for that kind of an environment to him. He also sees that the JCU atmosphere opens your mind in all senses. He believes that after John Cabot, he can go anywhere and do anything, and he is right.

I can confidently tell any parent: if your son or daughter wants to study at JCU and live in Rome, let him or her do it. It will be a true gift; a gift for life. Alessandro will graduate this May.

A few years ago, my husband and I moved to Greece. We live in a beautiful place called Glyfada, on the Greek Riviera. We recently bought the Italian women's clothing brand SUBDUED and opened our first shop in September of 2016.

I will always thank my parents for the special gift they gave me when they encouraged me to study at John Cabot University. It gave me the most wonderful memories in the most beautiful city in the world.
