Shakespeare in Italy
From 6:30 - 8:30 on Tuesday, September 16th, John Cabot will have the pleasure of hosting Professor Francois Xavier Gleyzon, Assistant Professor of English at the University of Central Florida. Perfect for students of literature, or anyone interested in a fascinating interpretation of an iconic masterpiece, Professor Gleyzon’s talk is based on an original paper called, "Sacrifice, Mystery, and Incision: Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and Paolo Uccello's Corpus Domini Predella."
An accomplished author, Professor Gleyzon has published several books and scholarly articles. Come hear him speak in the Aula Magna Regina, Guarini Campus.
New “Confessions” Translation
For students with a love of fiction, history, or politics who have chosen to study abroad in Rome, this Italy-centered book presentation is a must-attend. Frederika Randall will discuss her recently published translation of Ippolito Nievo’s Confessions of an Italian. This classic nineteenth century novel traces both the personal journey of its protagonist and the political progress of Italy toward unification.
From 6:30-8:30 on September 23rd, John Cabot students can meet Frederika Randall and hear all about her own journey as a Harvard and MIT educated translator. The presentation will take place in the Aula Magna Regina, Guarini Campus.
Delving Into Democratization
At 6:30 on October 2nd, John Cabot students will have the opportunity to attend a lecture by Leonardo Morlino, an esteemed professor of Political Science at LUISS University, Rome. Professor Morlino will give a talk called, “What We Know About Democratization, What We Don't, and Why,” drawing on an extensive body of his own published research and a current project that investigates the quality of democracy in 18 Latin American countries.
It must be mentioned that Professor Morlino is a particularly distinguished guest. Twice a Fellow at Oxford College, and a visiting professor at Stanford, Prof Morlino has also taught at universities in Madrid and Paris.In addition, he served as co-editor of the important political science journal Rivista Italiana di ScienzaPolitica from 1977 through 1991. This lecture is open to the public, so arrive early to claim your seat!
