Student Clubs and Organizations leaders gathered inside Guarini Campus during the first week of the fall semester for the first official Student Leadership Challenge training. The Student Leadership Challenge is meant to teach student leaders how to mobilize others to get extraordinary things done.
Director of Student Life Pilar Murguia opened the event with a speech about leadership, stating that “club leaders are the models of the student leaders JCU aspires to mold.”
The training began with Ms. Murguia's introduction of the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership: Model the Way, Inspire a Shared Vision, Challenge the Process, Enable Others to Act, and Encourage the Heart. President Pavoncello followed with an inspiring speech emphasizing that JCU is a unique university in which students are taught to constantly think outside of the box, thanks to the international and multicultural exposure throughout their undergraduate careers. The rest of the day was filled with further training sessions and team building activities. As many of this semester’s club leaders are seniors, it is especially important that they successfully inspire and mobilize other students to become next year’s leaders.
