Professor Antonella Salvatore joined John Cabot University's faculty in 2010 as a Lecturer in Marketing. Before joining the JCU faculty, Professor Salvatore worked as Sales and Retail Director for multinational companies such as Calvin Klein Jeans, Sixty Spa, Bialetti Industrie, and Fila Europe, just to name a few.
She opened subsidiaries in international markets, U.K., U.S., Spain, France, Germany, Japan, Turkey, and Brazil; she negotiated distribution and franchising agreements with business partners in international markets. In addition to teaching, Prof. Salvatore is the Director of the Center for Professional and Continuing Education and the Director of the Career Services Center.
In 2017, Prof. Antonella Salvatore decided to develop and teach the course Made in Italy: The Italian Business Environment at JCU to help students develop a clear understanding of the Italian, and European, business culture. The course analyzes the Italian business environment and the characteristics of its culture and students learn about the different types of corporate sectors in Italy.
In 2017, the course Made in Italy: The Italian Business Environment was awarded the Adriano Olivetti Prize, a prestigious Italian award for schools and universities. The course was recognized for its effectiveness in educating an international audience about Italian culture and the high quality of products that are “Made in Italy”.
Company representatives and guest speakers hold virtual special classes and tell students about their development, challenges, and strategies. JCU partners with many made-in-Italy companies, such as Eataly, Liu Jo, Brioni, Salvatore Ferragamo, FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles), and Bulgari. Even though in recent time some of these companies have been acquired by French groups, their Made in Italy soul and brand have remained protected over the years.
Students have the chance not only to hear the company testimonials but also to apply for internships with them. JCU Alumna Eleonora Costantini (Class of 2017), obtained an internship at Brioni thanks to JCU's Center for Career Services, just a few months before she graduated, and now she is an E-commerce and Digital Marketing Specialist at Brioni. She had just applied for the internship when Prof. Salvatore hosted two Brioni representatives in her class.
JCU's Made in Italy: The Italian Business Environment course allows students to assess some of the most popular Italian brands and learn why Made in Italy is a leading brand sector in the world, despite recent influences and threats from foreign investors. Company cases and special guests are an important part of this course and allow students to relate theory to practice. Through a range of case studies of brands and industries, this course teaches students about the specific types of Italian companies and the important role of business districts.
