Life After Graduation: Vittoria Notarbartolo

Hello everybody! My name is Vittoria Notarbartolo di Villarosa. I’m in my last year at John Cabot University and am majoring in Marketing with a minor in Psychology. I was recently offered a job by Fendi, which I'll be starting after graduation in May, and I want to share the selection process I went through with you.

Last December, I had an informal interview with the CEO of Babuino 181 luxury suites and Fendi Private Suites. This is the exclusive home rental agency that belongs to Fendi.

During the interview, the CEO asked me about my studies, my interests, and my future plans. Drawing on what I learned in Professor Favorite's  Business Communication class, I was able to establish a connection with my interviewer. We later had a more personal conversation about both his and my studies and overall interests, which turned out to be the same: marketing and advertising.

After three months, they called me back to schedule an interview with the Human Resources of Fendi Private Suites. This time, I prepared myself by extensively researching the company to become as familiar as possible with their work. I was asked why I want to work for them, and this was a question I was able to answer thanks to my knowledge of the business. At John Cabot, I had taken Professor Salvatore’s Retailing Applied to Fashion Industry class; I used what I learned there to show my preparation and my passion for the business.

I would suggest to everyone that it is vital to prepare for a job interview by focusing on good communication, and by preparing an excellent resume, both skills I learned in Professor Favorite’s Business Communication class. It is also very useful to have a clear grasp of which direction you want to take with your career and to know as much as possible about the area you are passionate about. Meeting Professor Salvatore before my interview and taking her class on Luxury Brands were both instrumental steps for me in achieving this goal.

Good luck, and ad maiora!
