1. Visit Assisi When You Study in Italy

Assisi is located north of Rome in central Italy’s Umbria region. This city is a popular destination for international tourists, especially those who are Catholic and want to see the birthplace of the 12th-century Saint Francis. You’ll love this city when you study in Italy due to its walkability, abundant Roman ruins, medieval architecture, and beautiful views of the regional landscape.

Students can attend an organized weekend trip to Assisi, where they can hop on a bus and stay the night in a hotel. This hill town in central Italy serves as a reference point for the development of Italian and European art and architecture, making it a fascinating and historically rich experience. This trip allows students to immerse themselves into Italian culture, plunging into the spirituality of these sacred places and transcending religion for a sense of divinity and peace.

2. Hit the Slopes in Bardonecchia

For a different style of trip, you can visit Bardonecchia, a town located in the city of Turin that’s surrounded by mountains. This mountain town grew from a small village with the help of the Frejus Rail Tunnel, which was the first to cross the Alps. With multiple ski areas, Bardonecchia is an excellent place for those passionate about winter sports who want to ski above the treeline. Having served as a location for the 2006 Winter Olympics, the state-of-the-art terrain park and Olympic-sized halfpipe serve as a major attraction for snowboarders in the region and beyond.

JCU students can spend their spring break in Bardonecchia when they study abroad in Rome, hitting the slopes for four days straight and staying in hotel accommodation at the resort. Round-trip transportation, chaperones, insurance, rentals, lift tickets, and meals are provided, making this a great option for students looking to spend their spring break in the mountains.

3. See the Picturesque Region of Tuscany

Tuscany is one of the most iconic regions in Italy, filled with vast green meadows adorned with Italian olive trees and Mediterranean shrubs and full of perched villages that span into the distance. This picturesque region is home to many crowded artistic cities admired by millions of tourists each year, such as the cities of Siena, Lucca, and Pisa. Students studying in Rome can attend a weekend trip to Tuscany, where they are immersed in the beauty of the nature of this region. As inspiration for several famous generational artists, Tuscany is the ideal destination to get in touch with your artistic side. Students stay in a farmhouse for two nights tucked away in nature, visit the thermal baths, and enjoy an art workshop during their stay.
